England’s Laurie Canter produced a jaw-dropping moment on the final green, holing a 100-foot eagle putt to grab a share of second place at the Genesis Championship — but it wasn’t enough to stop home favourite Jung-Hwan Lee from lifting the trophy in Cheonan.
Lee Delivers Dream Finish
The South Korean star carded a stunning seven-under 64 to triumph on 11 under, finishing three clear of Canter and Spain’s Nacho Elvira, who both closed at eight under.
Elvira, who led after round three, stumbled with bogeys at the 11th and 17th. Needing an eagle on the last to force extra holes, he found the water with his approach and saw his challenge end.
Canter’s Magic on 18
Canter’s final-round 67 featured three birdies — but it was his monster putt on the closing hole that lit up the tournament. The 35-year-old’s effort rolled across the 18th green and dropped to huge cheers from the crowd.
His eagle also puts him among the year’s longest made putts, though American Patrick Fishburn still leads 2025 with a 106-foot effort at the Texas Open in April.
Strong English Showing
Andy Sullivan posted a steady 70 to finish tied fourth on seven under, while Alex Fitzpatrick closed four under.
After sealing the biggest win of his career, Lee credited the home support for inspiring his charge.
“The gallery out there were really cheering for me — they gave me the strength I needed,” Lee told Sky Sports. “I just hope I can live up to their expectations in the future.”
