Pakistan Athletics Federation Imposes Lifetime Ban On Arshad Nadeem’s Coach Salman Iqbal

Islamabad: In a major disciplinary action, the Pakistan Amateur Athletics Federation (PAAF) has imposed a lifetime ban on Salman Iqbal, the long-time coach of Pakistan’s star javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem. The decision, announced earlier this week, follows allegations of constitutional violations during the Punjab Athletics Association’s recent elections.

According to federation officials, an inquiry committee was constituted to investigate irregularities linked to the Punjab Athletics Association polls held in August. After reviewing the findings and Iqbal’s response to formal notices, the committee recommended a permanent ban, which the PAAF officially enforced on October 10.

Ban Extends To All Levels Of Athletics

Under the lifetime sanction, Salman Iqbal has been barred from participating in any athletics-related activities, including coaching, administrative roles, or association with any official position under PAAF’s jurisdiction. The federation stated that the action aims to uphold “disciplinary integrity and transparency” within the athletics structure.

Dispute Over Funding And Athlete Support

The controversy surrounding Iqbal’s conduct reportedly intensified following his communications with the Pakistan Sports Board regarding financial support for Arshad Nadeem’s training and international participation. Iqbal claimed he had to depend on friends and private well-wishers to fund Nadeem’s rehabilitation and overseas training due to a lack of institutional backing.

Sources indicate that his outspoken criticism of the athletics administration’s handling of funds may have contributed to the growing friction between Iqbal and the federation.

Uncertain Future For Arshad Nadeem

The decision has sparked debate in Pakistan’s sports community, as Iqbal has been instrumental in shaping Arshad Nadeem’s rise to international success. With Nadeem preparing for upcoming international events, including Olympic qualifiers, concerns have been raised about how the ban may affect his training and performance.

Neither Salman Iqbal nor Arshad Nadeem has issued an official statement on the matter yet. However, analysts believe the fallout could have broader implications for athlete management and governance within Pakistan’s athletics framework.
