Mangaluru : The stage is set at the U.S. Mallya Indoor Stadium as Mangaluru prepares to host the much-anticipated Namo Chess Tournament under the ongoing MP Sports Festival. With over 500 registered participants, the event has already created a buzz among young athletes, families, and chess enthusiasts within Dakshina Kannada.
The tournament will feature three competitive categories — Under-10, Under-15, and an Open division — allowing everyone from budding prodigies to seasoned players to showcase their strategy and precision on the board. Registration begins at 8:00 am, followed by the official inauguration at 8:30 am.
Designed as part of a larger mission to make sports accessible and exciting, the festival reflects the growing spirit of “Fit India for a Developed India.” According to organizers, the chess competition is only the beginning — with upcoming events in volleyball, kabaddi, wrestling, cricket, badminton and more scheduled in the coming weeks.
Local representatives and dignitaries, including MP Capt Brijesh Chowta, MLAs, and sports officials, are expected to attend the inaugural ceremony to encourage community participation and promote grassroots sporting culture.
As the countdown begins, one message resonates across the venue:
➡ “Every move counts.”
And on November 23, in Mangaluru — it truly will.
