Bhubaneswar: Sndip Sanjay Sargar’s journey from delivering food on the streets of Pune to becoming a world champion is the kind of story that defines grit and belief. The 32-year-old para javelin thrower clinched gold in the men’s F44 event at the 2025 World Para Athletics Championships in New Delhi, throwing 62.82m on his fifth attempt.
What makes Sargar’s triumph remarkable is his past. Before breaking into the international stage, he worked as a Zomato delivery boy to fund his training, often balancing late-night deliveries with morning practice sessions. His perseverance finally paid off, as he out-threw compatriot Sandeep Chaudhary, who managed 62.67m, in a thrilling contest.
Sargar admitted the rainy conditions were not ideal—he prefers warmer weather to loosen up—but drew strength from watching fellow Indians Rinku and Sundar shine earlier in the tournament. “Their performance inspired me,” he said after his win.
For an athlete who once cycled across Pune’s traffic to deliver orders, standing atop the world podium is more than just victory—it’s proof that determination can rewrite destiny.
Interesting Facts:
Sandip is supported by Olympic Gold Quest, a non-profit nurturing Indian sporting talent.
He represented India at the 2024 Paris Paralympics before his New Delhi heroics.
Despite winning gold, he noted the absence of family and friends in the stands, relying purely on self-belief.
