Bhubaneswar : In a key pool-stage encounter of the Women’s Cricket World Cup, England batted first and compiled a total of 244 for 9 in 50 overs, with Tammy Beaumont top-scoring at 78, and solid contributions from Alice Capsey (38) and Charlie Dean (26).
In reply, Australia’s chase got off to a disastrous start: they lost their first wicket when Phoebe Litchfield (1) was bowled by Lauren Bell, reducing Australia to 2 for 1. The collapse continued with Georgia Voll falling to Linsey Smith for 6 (Australia 21-2), followed shortly by Ellyse Perry falling caught to Smith (13), leaving Australia at 24-3. At the 8th over mark, Australia were 32-3 (Beth Mooney 6, Annabel Sutherland 5).
The match took place on 22 October 2025, as part of the tournament in Indore. Both teams had already secured semi-final places, but the clash carried implications for momentum and psychological advantage.
England’s middle overs were tested by Australia’s spin attack, in particular Alana King, who finished with 1-20 from 10 overs. The Australian batting line-up, missing regular skipper Alyssa Healy due to a calf injury and replaced by Voll, now face a steep decision in how to rebuild from this shaky start.
As the chase progresses, Australia must regroup quickly to avoid handing England the upper hand heading into the knockout stages.
