Bhubaneswar: Joshi, former Indian left-arm orthodox spinner known for his crafty bowling and handy lower-order batting, is set to take the reins as the spin bowling coach at the BCCI Centre of Excellence starting October 1, 2025. This appointment marks an exciting new chapter for the 55-year-old Karnataka stalwart who impressed with both bat and ball during his international career spanning 1996 to 2001.Joshi’s cricket journey is a story of grit and dedication.
Born in Gadag, Karnataka, he traveled 65 kilometers daily just to practice, ultimately achieving the rare Ranji Trophy double of 500 runs and 50 wickets in the 1995-96 season, which paved his way into the national team. Over 15 Tests and 69 ODIs, he grabbed notable figures including a legendary 5-wicket haul against South Africa, ranked by Wisden as one of the best ODI bowling performances.Having recently worked with India A spinners and been part of Punjab Kings’ support staff during IPL 2025, Joshi brings deep experience and passion to the CoE.
Under the guidance of VVS Laxman, he will nurture upcoming spinners across all age groups and genders, shaping India’s spin future with insights refined over decades on and off the field.Joshi’s story from a determined domestic player to an international match-winner and now a pivotal coaching figure embodies excellence, perseverance, and the art of spin bowling mastery.
