Pathum Nissanka has completed 2000 T20I runs

Sri Lankan opener Pathum Nissanka, a talented multi-format player, etched his name in history books, becoming the 3rd Sri Lankan batsman to reach a milestone of 2000 runs in T20Is. He joins Kusal Perera and Kusal Mendis in this list. Notably, Nissanka is the fastest to do so in terms of innings.

The right-handed batter achieved the landmark in Match No. 5 of the Men’s T20 Asia Cup 2025 against Bangladesh. The 3rd match of Group B at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi saw Sri Lanka start their Asia Cup 2025 campaign on a high.

Nissanka scores 50 for Sri Lanka

Nissanka scored a magnificent fifty to play a key role in his side’s chase of a 140-run target. He shared a telling 85-run stand for the 2nd wicket against Kamil Mishara (46*) to lay the foundation for victory. Sri Lanka lost Kusal Mendis early on before Nissanka and Mishara stabilised the innings with a notable stand. Nissanka played his shots when needed and rotated the strike well. Sri Lanka scored at a brisk pace before Nissanka perished to Mahedi Hasan in the 11th over (108/2).

Nissanka’s innings consisted of six fours and a six. He consumed 34 balls, striking at 147.06. Sri Lanka then got the job done in 14.4 overs.

What are Nissanka’s stats as he gets to 2000 runs?

Nissanka owns 2000 runs from 69 matches at an average of 30.76. He has 16 fifties under his belt.

He completed the milestone in 68 innings, now the fastest by a Sri Lankan. As per ESPNcricinfo, he broke the record of Perera, who achieved the mark of 2000 runs in 76 innings. Meanwhile, Mendis took 80 innings to reach the feat.

Perera is Sri Lanka’s top scorer in T20Is and is followed by Mendis.
