India’s medal drought at the ISSF World Cup continued on Thursday as top names, including Divyansh Singh Panwar, Umamahesh Maddineni and Rahi Sarnobat, failed to progress beyond the qualification stage.
Italians dominate on day three
Italy’s Danilo Sollazzo stole the spotlight in the men’s 10m air rifle, producing a record-breaking performance. Sollazzo, who had finished runner-up to India’s Rudrankksh Patil at the 2022 Cairo World Championship, shot 255.0 in the final — the highest score ever recorded in the event.
Record broken in style
His effort relegated reigning Olympic champion Sheng Lihao of China to silver. The 19-year-old Chinese star had set the previous world record, but Sollazzo surpassed it by 0.5 points on his way to gold.
India’s barren run
For India, the campaign in Ningbo has so far been a story of missed chances. With their leading shooters unable to make the final cut, the wait for a first podium finish at this stage of the competition continues.
