The Premier League transfer window is entering its final weeks, and both Manchester United and Liverpool are making late moves to strengthen their squads before the deadline.
Liverpool began their title defence with a 4-2 victory over Bournemouth, where Hugo Ekitike opened his account with a debut goal. United, however, suffered a 1-0 defeat to Arsenal despite lively performances from new arrivals Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo.
United eye a goalkeeper and defender
After Altay Bayindir’s costly error against Arsenal, United are reportedly considering a shock move to bring back former goalkeeper David De Gea. Now at Fiorentina, the Spaniard has a release clause that could tempt the Old Trafford hierarchy.
The Red Devils are also tracking Brentford captain Nathan Collins. The versatile defender, who can operate both centrally and at full-back, has attracted strong interest as Erik ten Hag looks to shore up his defence.
Liverpool’s deadline for Isak
Liverpool, meanwhile, remain focused on Newcastle striker Alexander Isak. The 25-year-old Swede has been their top attacking target, but the Merseyside club has reportedly set a deadline for the deal to be concluded this week. If negotiations fail, the Reds are expected to move on to alternative forwards.
In defence, Liverpool are weighing up a move for Crystal Palace skipper Marc Guehi, though Brentford’s Nathan Collins is also an option if Guehi proves out of reach.
With just over two weeks left before the transfer window shuts, both United and Liverpool are racing against time to finalise their squads for the season ahead.
