Paris, France – Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) officially announced on Saturday the signing of French goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier from Lille, in a transfer reportedly worth €40 million. The 23-year-old has penned a five-year contract with the reigning French champions and newly crowned Champions League winners.
A Rising Star for the European Champions
Chevalier, who has been a member of various French national squads but has yet to earn a senior cap, rose to prominence with impressive performances for Lille. He particularly shone in last season’s Champions League campaign, where Lille reached the last 16, notably securing a 1-0 home win against Real Madrid and a 3-1 away victory over Atlético Madrid. He was also named the UNFP Ligue 1 Goalkeeper of the Year for the 2024-25 season.
Despite PSG’s successful 2024-25 season with Italian star Gianluigi Donnarumma in goal (backed by Matvey Safonov and Arnau Tenas), sources close to the club indicate that PSG Sporting Director Luis Campos has assured Chevalier that he will be the first-choice goalkeeper. This move suggests a potential shift in PSG’s goalkeeping hierarchy, aligning with manager Luis Enrique’s preference for a ball-playing goalkeeper. Chevalier is the second goalkeeper signed by PSG this summer, following Italian-Brazilian teenager Renato Marin.
Potential Debut in European Super Cup
Lucas Chevalier is expected to be available for PSG as early as Wednesday, August 13, 2025, when the Parisian giants are scheduled to face Tottenham Hotspur in the European Super Cup. The match, which pits the UEFA Champions League winners (PSG) against the UEFA Europa League winners (Tottenham), will be held at the Bluenergy Stadium in Udine, Italy.
