Sheetal Devi Rakesh Kumar produced another landmark performance for Indian para archery, setting a new world record in the compound mixed team qualification at the World Archery Para Series in Ahmedabad.
The Indian pair combined for 1,400 points out of a possible 1,440, with their score surpassing the previous world record of 1,399 that they had established at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.
The record came at the third stage of the 2026 Hyundai World Archery Para Series, being held at Ahmedabad’s Sabarmati Riverfront. The event marks India’s first international Para Archery Series competition on home soil.

Sheetal Devi Leads Women’s Compound Qualification
Sheetal Devi’s record-breaking mixed-team performance was complemented by an outstanding individual qualification round.
The world champion and home favourite scored 698 out of 720 to finish first in the women’s compound qualification. The performance underlined her status as one of the leading para archers in the world.
Sheetal had already enjoyed a strong 2026 season before arriving in Ahmedabad. At the Nove Mesto stage in June, she topped the women’s compound qualification with 697 points and set an Asian record.
She will now look to convert her strong qualification performance into a title on home soil.
India’s Para Archery Campaign Gains Momentum
The Sheetal Devi Rakesh Kumar world record is an important moment for Indian para archery, particularly with the Ahmedabad event serving as preparation for the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Para Games.
India entered the competition with a strong 29-member squad featuring several leading para archers, including Sheetal, Rakesh Kumar, Toman Kumar and Paralympic champion Harvinder Singh.
The Ahmedabad competition features more than 100 athletes from around the world and runs from September 5 to 9. It is the third stage of the 2026 Hyundai World Archery Para Series.
