Myanmar : India’s youth women footballers made a stellar statement at the AFC U-20 Women’s Asian Cup 2026 Qualifiers, scoring a commanding 7-0 victory against Turkmenistan at the Thuwunna Stadium in Yangon, Myanmar. This win, which came on August 8, 2025, not only boosted their confidence but also elevated India to the top of Group D, putting them in a strong position to qualify for the main tournament in Thailand next year. The team showcased sharp attacking prowess and solid set-piece execution, leading 5-0 by halftime.
Captain Shubhangi Singh and forward Sulanjana Raul dazzled with two goals each, while Sibani Devi, Thoibisana Chanu, and Pooja also found the net, contributing to an emphatic team performance. This victory followed a goalless draw against Indonesia, making the final group match against Myanmar crucial—a win or draw there will see India through to the AFC U-20 Women’s Asian Cup, ending a near 20-year absence from the championship.
The future looks promising for Indian women’s football, signaling a new chapter of growth and achievement on the continental stage.
