Bhubaneswar : Brazilian javelin sensation Luiz Maurício da Silva made history at the Brazilian Athletics Trophy in São Paulo in August 2025 by launching the javelin an astounding 91.00 metres. This outstanding throw set a new South American record and propelled him past India’s Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra, who had the season’s best mark before at 90.23m.
Luiz Maurício became the first South American athlete to cross the 90-metre mark in javelin, a milestone that also ranks him among the top 20 javelin throwers worldwide. His 91m effort positions him as the 18th best thrower of all time, and the second-best in the Americas, trailing only American Breaux Greer.
