Chandigarh : The Chandigarh Roller Skating Association (CRSA) recently held a felicitation ceremony to honor 24 skaters from the city who excelled at the 20th Asian Roller Skating Championship held in Jecheon, South Korea. These athletes contributed significantly to India’s medal tally by winning two gold, two silver, and one bronze medal across roller hockey and in-line hockey events.
Among the gold medal winners was the senior girls’ roller hockey team, featuring Manika Mahajan, Yashika Sharma, Vinnati, Himanshi Kaushal, and Anshika Sharma. The under-19 roller hockey team also secured gold, including skaters like Adhiraj Shaunak and Damanpreet Singh. The senior men’s roller hockey team earned silver, led by Gurshaan Singh Aujla, Angadbir Singh, Jujhar Singh, and Naman Gussain. In the in-line hockey category, the junior girls’ team won silver, while the junior boys’ team took home bronze.
CRSA not only recognized the players but also honored their manager Sanan Mahajan and coach Harpreet Singh for their crucial roles during the championship. The event was graced by Sanjay Tandon, chairman of the Standing Committee of the Administrator’s Advisory Council on Sports, who praised the skaters’ achievements and Chandigarh’s growing prominence in roller skating.
Arun Walia, president of CRSA, highlighted the sport’s rising popularity in Chandigarh, attributing the success partly to the inclusion of cash awards in the city’s sports policy, which has motivated athletes further.
This accomplishment reflects the hard work, dedication, and emerging talent in Chandigarh’s roller skating community, projecting promise for future international successes.
