Hungaroring circuit : McLaren confirmed their rapid form at the 2025 Hungarian Grand Prix by securing a clean sweep in all practice sessions, with Oscar Piastri setting the benchmark in Saturday’s final practice (FP3). The Australian driver, who currently leads the drivers’ championship, edged out teammate Lando Norris with a fastest lap of 1:14.916—just 0.032s ahead.
Lando Norris, who topped both sessions on Friday, continued his strong performance but narrowly missed out on the top spot as McLaren showcased a dominant one-two at the tight and technical Hungaroring. Charles Leclerc led the Ferrari challenge in third place, although his time was almost four-tenths slower than the leading McLarens. His teammate, Lewis Hamilton, settled for fourth, still unable to match the pace set by the frontrunners.
Mercedes continued to show steady progress, with rookie Kimi Antonelli impressively taking fifth. Both Aston Martins performed solidly: Fernando Alonso finished sixth and Lance Stroll seventh. George Russell placed eighth for Mercedes, followed by Kick Sauber’s Gabriel Bortoleto and Nico Hulkenberg, who completed a strong showing for the team by rounding out the top 10.
Red Bull’s struggles persisted throughout the session, with reigning world champion Max Verstappen only managing 12th place and Yuki Tsunoda down in 19th. This marks a notable shift from the team’s recent dominance, raising questions ahead of qualifying later in the day.
The final practice session sets the stage for a thrilling qualifying battle, as McLaren aims to convert their practice pace into pole position. With the gap between Piastri and Norris razor-thin, tension within the McLaren camp is palpable, and the battle for grid supremacy is far from settled.
