Kolkata :
Eighteen-year-old Makakmayum Daniel produced a stunning hat-trick for South United FC in a high-octane Group A clash at the Durand Cup, but it wasn’t enough as Indian Air Force Football Team (IAF FT) salvaged a dramatic 3–3 draw with a last-gasp equaliser at the Kishore Bharati Krirangan.
Daniel struck in the 9th and 23rd minutes before completing his treble with a fine volley in the 84th, putting South United on course for a memorable win. However, IAF FT fought back through goals from Mohammad Aqib (26’) and Akish Cyril (48’), before defender Sankit netted in the sixth minute of stoppage time to deny South United full points.
The result showcased South United’s attacking flair but also exposed defensive frailties, as they surrendered leads twice in the match.
Latest update:
East Bengal currently leads Group A after a 5–0 win in their opener. South United, with one point from two matches, now face an uphill task to qualify. IAF FT is second with one point from one game, while Namdhari FC is yet to play.
