Bhubaneswar : At just 20 years old, Shivam Lohakare from Sonai village, Maharashtra, has joined India’s elite “80m club” by throwing 80.95 meters at the Indian Open Athletics Meet in Pune (July 2025). He is the 16th Indian and second youngest after Neeraj Chopra to cross this mark.
Starting javelin at 13 and inspired by Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra, Shivam trains at the Army Sports Institute, Pune, and works as a Havaldar in the Mahar Regiment. His previous best was 76.92 meters in 2023, showing rapid progress under expert coaching.
Shivam aims to extend his throw to 85 meters this season and is seen as a promising talent who could build on India’s growing success in javelin on the international stage.
