New Delhi, India – The long-overdue Boxing Federation of India (BFI) elections are finally set to take place on August 21 in the Delhi-NCR region, as announced by the Interim Committee currently overseeing the sport. This decision marks a crucial step towards stabilizing the administration of Indian boxing after months of uncertainty.
AGM Agenda and Key Dates
According to a circular dated July 31 and signed by Interim Committee chief Ajay Singh, the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the BFI will convene on August 21 in Delhi-NCR. The agenda for this pivotal AGM includes the “confirmation of minutes of the previous meeting; election of various posts for the term 2025-2029, and any other item with the permission of the chair.”
End to Legal Wrangling and World Boxing’s Deadline
The tenure of the previous BFI office-bearers had officially ended on February 2. Elections were initially slated for March 28 but were subsequently stalled due to a series of legal disputes, encompassing multiple appeals and counter-appeals. Further complicating the process, the designated Returning Officer also resigned during this period of administrative turmoil.
World Boxing, the global governing body for the sport, had intervened by appointing the Interim Committee to manage the day-to-day affairs of Indian boxing and had set a firm deadline of August 31 for the elections to be conducted.
Restarting the Electoral Process
With the newly announced date, the entire electoral process will now restart. Member states have been instructed to submit the names of their two representatives by 5 PM IST on Monday, initiating the drafting of the Electoral College that will participate in the crucial August 21 vote.
