Bari, Italy – Canada has clinched its first-ever Hopman Cup title, as the formidable duo of Bianca Andreescu and Felix Auger-Aliassime triumphed over Italy’s Lucia Bronzetti and Flavio Cobolli in a captivating final held on Sunday, July 20, 2025, in Bari. The mixed doubles decider sealed the victory for Canada after a hard-fought tie.
Both nations were making their maiden appearance in the Hopman Cup final, setting the stage for a historic showdown.
Andreescu Dominates, Cobolli Levels the Tie
Canada made a perfect start to the final tie, with Bianca Andreescu dispatching Lucia Bronzetti in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3. Despite being ranked 185th in the world, 121 places lower than the Italian, the 25-year-old Andreescu showcased the enduring class that once saw her ranked No. 4 globally and led her to the 2019 US Open title. Her superior game proved too much for Bronzetti in their first-ever professional meeting.
The pressure then shifted to Flavio Cobolli, who needed to secure a win against Felix Auger-Aliassime to keep Italy’s title hopes alive. Their previous two encounters in 2024 were split, and their current rankings were close, with Cobolli at 19 and Auger-Aliassime at 28. The match was a tense affair, with the Canadian edging the first set in a tiebreak, 9-7. However, Wimbledon quarterfinalist Cobolli dug deep, securing a crucial break in the second set to win it 7-5 and force a deciding third-set tie-breaker, which he ultimately claimed 10-8, leveling the tie at 1-1.
Decisive Mixed Doubles Secures Canadian Triumph
With the scores tied, the Hopman Cup trophy hinged on the mixed doubles rubber. Andreescu and Auger-Aliassime, combining their strengths, proved too strong for the Italian pair. The Canadians displayed excellent chemistry and execution, taking the doubles match convincingly with a score of 6-3, 6-3, sparking jubilant celebrations for the Canadian team and their supporters.
This victory marks a significant milestone for Canadian tennis, adding the prestigious Hopman Cup to their growing list of international team successes.
