Bhubaneswar : Inter Kashi have officially been crowned I-League 2024-25 champions, capping off a crazy end to the season after a big legal twist. The Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) ruled in the club’s favor on Friday, July 18, overturning the All India Football Federation’s (AIFF) earlier decision that took the title away from them and handed it to Churchill Brothers.
The whole drama started when AIFF ruled that Inter Kashi had fielded an “ineligible player,” deducted points, and pushed the Varanasi club down to second. Not accepting the blow, Inter Kashi challenged the verdict at CAS. On review, CAS scrapped the AIFF’s call and ordered the federation to restore Inter Kashi to the top of the table with 42 points—making them champions, two points clear of Churchill Brothers.
Along with the title, the CAS also handed out fines. AIFF must pay most of the arbitration costs, while Churchill Brothers, Real Kashmir, and Namdhari have to split the rest and pay legal costs to Inter Kashi.
In the end, Inter Kashi finally get the trophy they fought so hard for, both on the pitch and in the courtroom.
