Long-term move for Serbia keeper
Bournemouth have secured the transfer of 25‑year‑old Serbian international goalkeeper Đorđe Petrović from Chelsea on a five‑year contract. The Cherries reportedly paid around £25 million to complete the deal.
Rider to success from MLS via France
Petrović joined Chelsea in 2023 after an impressive spell at New England Revolution, costing the Blues approximately £12.5 million plus add-ons. He briefly became Chelsea’s first-choice during the 2023–24 season, before being loaned to RC Strasbourg following a coaching shift.
High-flying loan stint in Ligue 1
While on loan at Strasbourg during the 2024–25 campaign, Petrović delivered an outstanding performance—making 31 Ligue 1 appearances and earning a nomination for Goalkeeper of the Season. His form helped the club finish seventh and secure a Europa Conference League playoff spot.
Opting out of Chelsea for guaranteed starts
With limited opportunities awaiting him under Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca—omitted from the Club World Cup squad—Petrović chose to leave Stamford Bridge in pursuit of regular playing time.
Filling Kepa’s gloves at Vitality Stadium
Petrović arrives at Bournemouth to replace outgoing goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, who has signed with Arsenal for approximately £5 million. Backup choice Mark Travers also departed for Everton, leaving the Serbian as the Cherries’ new No 1.
Bournemouth aiming to build on historic ninth-place finish
Bournemouth finished ninth in last season’s Premier League, matching their highest-ever league placing. With Petrović now between the sticks, Andoni Iraola’s squad looks to maintain momentum and challenge again in 2025–26.
Looking forward
Bournemouth will begin their Premier League campaign on August 15 with a challenging away fixture at reigning champions Liverpool, with their official season opener slated against Bristol City and a Summer Series tour in the USA in between.
