Andre Russell to Hang Up His International Boots After Jamaica T20Is

Home Finale for a Caribbean Icon

West Indies all‑rounder Andre Russell has confirmed that he will retire from international cricket after the first two T20Is against Australia at Sabina Park, Jamaica, starting 20–22 July 2025. At 37, Russell finishes his international journey seven months ahead of the next T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka.

A Career of Power, Passion, and Pride

Since debuting in international cricket in 2011, Russell has represented the West Indies in one Test, 56 ODIs, and 84 T20Is. In T20Is alone, he’s amassed 1,078 runs and captured 61 wickets—a testament to his explosive impact. He was also instrumental in the West Indies’ T20 World Cup victories in 2012 and 2016.

Russell Reflects on Wearing the Maroon

“Words cannot explain what it meant. To represent the West Indies has been one of the proudest achievements in my life,” Russell said, recalling how childhood dreams became reality and inspired future generations. He expressed his desire to “finish my international career on a high while being a role model for the next generation of cricketers coming out of the Caribbean.”

A Fond Tribute from Daren Sammy

West Indies coach Daren Sammy praised Russell’s unwavering professionalism and competitive spirit, saying, “His hunger to perform and win for West Indies has never wavered. I wish him all the best on his next chapter.” His departure follows that of fellow star Nicholas Pooran, making Russell the second high-profile retiree in recent months.

Fresh Faces and Looking Ahead

Russell’s exit opens the door for Matthew Forde, named as his replacement in the T20I squad, while emerging talents Jewel Andrew and Jediah Blades earned maiden call-ups. With momentum building toward the 2026 T20 World Cup, Cricket West Indies remains focused on blending future potential with seasoned leadership.

As one of T20 cricket’s fiercest competitors, Andre Russell departs on his own terms—on home soil, under the roar of the Sabina Park crowd, leaving a legacy of power, flair, and inspiration that will reverberate across the Caribbean and beyond.
