Kolkata : Forward Kiyan Nassiri has sealed an emotional return to Mohun Bagan Super Giant, signing a three-year contract that will keep him at the club until 2028. The 24-year-old attacker, who first made headlines with a stunning hat-trick in the 2021–22 Kolkata Derby, comes back to the club where he began his professional journey and built his reputation as one of Indian football’s brightest young prospects.
Nassiri spent four seasons with Mohun Bagan after graduating from the club’s academy system. He became a fan favourite for his ability to rise to big occasions, none more memorable than his three goals against arch-rivals East Bengal as a substitute—a performance that etched his name into derby folklore. Over his initial stint in green and maroon, Nassiri made around 46 appearances and contributed important goals and assists, particularly in domestic competitions.
Seeking more regular playing time and a fresh challenge, Nassiri moved to Chennaiyin FC in 2024. However, the switch did not deliver the breakthrough he had hoped for. He struggled to cement a starting spot, featuring mainly as a substitute and registering just one assist in 15 appearances. With his career in need of renewed momentum, the forward decided to part ways with Chennaiyin despite having time remaining on his contract.
Speaking after completing the transfer, Nassiri expressed both relief and excitement at coming back to familiar surroundings. He described Mohun Bagan as a club that feels like family and said he is eager to repay the supporters’ faith by contributing to the team’s ambitions in the upcoming season. Head coach José Francisco Molina also welcomed the signing, highlighting Nassiri’s pace and versatility as qualities that will bolster the squad’s attacking options. His arrival is particularly timely, given the recent departure of winger Ashique Kuruniyan to Bengaluru FC.
For Mohun Bagan, the return of a homegrown talent underscores the club’s emphasis on blending experience with players who understand the culture and expectations that come with wearing the historic jersey. With pre-season preparations set to begin shortly, Nassiri will have the opportunity to fight for a place in the starting eleven and reclaim the form that once made him a breakout star.
As the new Indian Super League campaign approaches, Mohun Bagan’s supporters will hope that Kiyan Nassiri’s homecoming will not only rekindle old memories but also spark a fresh wave of success for the club.
