Looks like the European teams finally got one back! After recent losses for Paris Saint-Germain against Botafogo and Chelsea against Flamengo, Bayern Munich stepped up and secured a strong victory against South American opponents, Boca Juniors, in their Group C match.
The Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, usually home to the Dolphins, was absolutely buzzing with passionate Boca fans. They brought their incredible energy and noise, filling the stadium to its 63,587 capacity.
But Bayern quickly set about quieting the crowd. Their central midfielders, Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka, took control, and Bayern’s attackers moved so well they really stretched Boca’s defense.
The German side thought they had an early lead just eight minutes in when a corner from Olise sailed untouched through a crowded penalty area and into the net. However, the referee was called over for a VAR review. It clearly showed that Serge Gnabry had blocked and tangled with Boca’s goalkeeper, Agustin Marchesin, so the goal was disallowed.
Kane Strikes, Bayern Pushes for More
Ten minutes later, though, Bayern got their breakthrough! Boca couldn’t fully clear the ball in their own box, and Harry Kane pounced, delivering a clinical left-footed shot right into the bottom corner.
Bayern sensed weakness and pressed hard for a second goal. Olise found Gnabry on the right, and his low cross zipped across the face of the goal, just inches away from a sliding Kingsley Coman. They were really close to extending their lead!
It was a dynamic match, and Bayern showed their class, breaking the trend of European teams stumbling against South American powerhouses.
