Sweden’s very own Armand “Mondo” Duplantis delighted the home fans in Stockholm on Sunday by launching a stunning 6.28 m pole vault—to smash his own world record, set just in February. That’s the 12th time he’s rewritten the record books.
He soared over the bar on his very first try, thriving in the near-perfect conditions and feeding off the electric energy of the Olympic Stadium crowd (yes, the same stadium built for the 1912 Games!). Before the event, he’d promised fans he’d go for the world mark—and when his name was announced, the stadium erupted in applause. They never stopped cheering, push him on every step of the way.
Australia’s Kurtis Marschall put in a solid performance, getting up to 5.90 m, but couldn’t conquer the six-meter barrier, leaving the stage wide open for Mondo.
When the bar climbed to that magical 6.28 m, Duplantis ran in, planted the pole with elegance, and sailed effortlessly over – another world record, and another eruption of cheers. He raced off the mat, ripped off his singlet, and celebrated on Swedish soil for the first time ever—surrounded by his partner and family.
