Essendon will welcome back Kyle Langford for AFL selection in round 23, but the news is less positive for Archie May and captain Zach Merrett, who remain sidelined.
Langford Ready for Senior Comeback
Langford made a successful return through the VFL last Saturday against Geelong’s reserves, collecting 13 disposals and five marks in managed minutes. The forward was taken off late in the game as part of a pre-planned load management strategy, and the medical staff has since given him the green light to feature at senior level this week. His inclusion provides a timely boost to Essendon’s attack ahead of Friday night’s meeting with St Kilda.
Injury Setbacks for May and Merrett
The Bombers will be without key forward Archie May for at least two weeks after scans confirmed ruptured ankle ligaments. The injury occurred late in last week’s defeat to Geelong at GMHBA Stadium when he rolled his ankle awkwardly.
Merrett, who fractured a metacarpal in his hand, has been ruled out of the St Kilda match. The skipper is aiming for a return in round 24 against Carlton, which will be his 250th career AFL game — a milestone the club and fans are eager to celebrate.
