The 2025-26 Women’s Super League season produced major surprises as Manchester City W.F.C. clinched their first league title in 10 years, while Leicester City W.F.C. were relegated following defeat in the inaugural play-off.
Newly-promoted London City Lionesses impressed in their debut top-flight campaign, whereas Tottenham Hotspur W.F.C. emerged as the biggest surprise package by finishing fifth.
Manchester City Dominate Under Jeglertz
Manchester City W.F.C. enjoyed a remarkable campaign under manager Andree Jeglertz, winning the WSL title after a 13-match winning streak between September and February.
The club benefited from keeping star forwards Khadija Shaw and Vivianne Miedema fit throughout the season, with the duo scoring 31 goals combined.
Arsenal And Chelsea Fall Short Of Expectations
Arsenal W.F.C. finished second despite another strong European campaign, but injuries and inconsistent performances cost them in the title race.
Meanwhile, Chelsea F.C. Women endured a disappointing season by their standards after winning six consecutive league titles previously. Injury problems and off-field disruption affected manager Sonia Bompastor’s side, although they still lifted the League Cup.
Tottenham And London City Impress
Tottenham Hotspur W.F.C. exceeded expectations under manager Martin Ho, transforming from relegation candidates into one of the league’s most competitive sides.
London City Lionesses also enjoyed a successful debut WSL campaign by finishing sixth, proving they could compete strongly despite major changes during the season.
Leicester Relegated After Difficult Campaign
Leicester City W.F.C. suffered relegation after a difficult season in which they scored only 11 league goals. A 13-game losing streak in 2026 left them rooted to the bottom before they eventually lost the survival play-off against Charlton Athletic.
