Indian Premier League chairman Arun Dhumal has urged cricketers to remain focused on their performances during tournaments instead of getting distracted by social media content creation and online trends.
Speaking amid growing discussions around player behaviour and digital activity during IPL 2026, Dhumal stressed that professional cricketers should prioritise cricket over making reels and behind-the-scenes content while a tournament is underway.
Using Virat Kohli as an example, Dhumal praised the star batter’s commitment and professionalism, saying Kohli has earned respect through consistent performances on the field rather than social media popularity.
“Cricketers should focus on realities rather than reels,” Dhumal said while highlighting how elite athletes maintain concentration during high-pressure competitions like the IPL.
His remarks come amid recent controversies involving player-generated online content during the ongoing IPL season. Reports claimed that fast bowler Arshdeep Singh faced scrutiny over behind-the-scenes vlogs featuring fellow players, while certain clips circulating online also sparked debate over player conduct and social media responsibility.
The issue has once again brought attention to the balance between athlete branding and maintaining discipline during major sporting events. Earlier this month, the BCCI reportedly circulated updated operational guidelines to franchises regarding player conduct, anti-corruption measures, and online behaviour during IPL 2026.
Dhumal’s comments have since triggered widespread discussion among cricket fans and experts, many of whom believe modern players must carefully balance their digital presence with professional commitments on the field.
