Nelly Korda surged into a commanding lead at the Chevron Championship after another brilliant round in the second day of the season’s first women’s major.
The American star carded a seven-under 65 for the second consecutive round to move to 14 under par, opening up a six-shot gap over Patty Tavatanakit at Houston’s Memorial Park Golf Course.
Korda Finds Rhythm With Clinical Back Nine
Korda’s round gathered momentum on the back nine, where she picked up five birdies to pull away from the field.
Comfortable with both her shot selection and execution, the 27-year-old looked in complete control as she eyes a third major title and a second win at this event.
“I just feel really good,” she said, highlighting her consistency off the tee and precise approach play.
Chasers Struggle To Keep Pace
Thailand’s Tavatanakit remains the closest challenger at eight under after a steady, bogey-free 69.
A group at seven under includes Farah O’Keefe, Ryann O’Toole and Ina Yoon, but all face a steep task to close the gap.
Mixed Fortunes For Top Names
World number one Jeeno Thitikul suffered a surprise exit after missing the cut by a single shot, while England’s Mimi Rhodes also fell short following a difficult second round.
Other notable players, including Charley Hull, remain well off the pace heading into the weekend.
Korda Eyes Another Major Statement
Having already enjoyed a strong start to the season, including a win at the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions, Korda now looks poised to add another major title to her growing list of achievements.
With her current form and sizeable lead, she will be the player to beat over the final two rounds in Houston.
