Deontay Wilder has called for a fight with Anthony Joshua after defeating Derek Chisora in London.
Wilder approached Joshua ringside at the The O2 Arena after the bout and told him “let’s do it”, suggesting a long-awaited heavyweight clash.
Wilder wins by decision
The 40-year-old American earned a split-decision victory over Chisora, with judges scoring the fight 115-111 and 115-113 in his favour, while one judge had it 115-112 for Chisora.
The win was Wilder’s 45th in 50 professional fights and keeps him active in the heavyweight division.
After the contest, Wilder said he is ready to face any top heavyweight and claimed the division needs him.
Joshua watching ringside
Joshua attended the fight to support his close friend Chisora. The two-time heavyweight champion has largely stayed out of the spotlight since a car crash in Nigeria in December that killed two of his friends.
Joshua suffered minor injuries in the accident and has not fought since stopping YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul in December.
Following that win, Joshua said he wanted to face long-time rival Tyson Fury next.
Possible heavyweight showdown
A bout between Wilder and Joshua had previously been planned for 2024 but collapsed after Wilder suffered a shock defeat to Joseph Parker.
Joshua’s promoter Eddie Hearn later said the British star would have “no problem” fighting Wilder if the opportunity arises.
