What the Records Tell Us
The Yangzhou Half Marathon has grown into a hotspot for elite East African runners and world-class performances. The flat, fast course has continually produced sub-60 minutes runs in the men’s race and has proven fertile ground for record-setting efforts.
Matata and Chebet’s achievements continue this tradition, highlighting not just their individual brilliance but also the deep competitive fields the event attracts year after year.
Elite Strategy and Race Breakdown
From the gun, Matata surged into a lead pack, maintaining an aggressive yet controlled rhythm that paid dividends in the latter stages. By 10 km he had already signaled his intent, and a strong final 5 km secured both the win and the new event record.
Chebet, known for her finishing kick on the track and road alike, executed a perfectly paced race, staying within sight of the leaders before unleashing a decisive surge in the closing kilometres.
