Animesh Kujur Finishes Fourth in U-23 200m at Monaco Diamond League

Monaco, France – India’s Animesh Kujur secured a fourth-place finish in the men’s Under-23 200m event at the Monaco Diamond League on Friday, clocking a time of 20.55 seconds. Australia’s Gout Gout won the race with 20.10s, followed by Collen Kebinatshipi of Botswana (20.28s) and Naeem Jack of South Africa (20.42s) in second and third, respectively.

Kujur, who holds the Indian National Record for men’s 200m (20.32s), recently made headlines by breaking the National Record in the men’s 100m. Earlier this month, he clocked 10.18s to win Heat 2 at the Dromia International Sprint & Relays Meeting in Greece, becoming the first Indian to run sub-10.20s in the event. This performance surpassed the previous National Record of 10.20s set by Gurindervir Singh in March 2025 at the Indian Grand Prix in Bengaluru.

Avinash Sable Records DNF in 3000m Steeplechase

In other news from the event, Indian National Record holder Avinash Sable did not finish (DNF) the men’s 3000m steeplechase. Sable appeared to have made contact with another competitor who tripped and fell immediately after a water jump.

The 3000m steeplechase event was won by two-time Olympic champion Soufiane El Bakkali of Morocco with a time of 8:03.18. Japan’s Ryuji Miura (8:03.43) and Kenya’s Edmund Serem (8:04.00) secured second and third places, respectively. This was Sable’s third Diamond League meeting of the season, having previously finished 13th (8:22.59s) in Xiamen and eighth (8:23.85s) in Shaoxing.
