Alyssa Healy Calls Time on International Career

Australian cricket faces a major change with Alyssa Healy announcing her retirement from all international cricket at the conclusion of the home multi-format series against India. The 35-year-old wicketkeeper-batter revealed the news on the Willow Talk podcast, ending a glittering 16-year career that began with her international debut in February 2010.

Healy will retire immediately from T20Is, missing the three-match series against India in February, but will play the ODIs and the one-off Test in March. The WACA Test in Perth will mark her 299th and final international appearance, just shy of her 36th birthday.
“It’s a bittersweet moment,” Healy said. “I’m still passionate about playing, but the competitive edge isn’t quite there anymore. I’m grateful for one last series at home, captaining Australia in the ODIs and Test against India.”

Healy retires as the most prolific wicketkeeper in women’s international cricket, with 269 dismissals and 7,106 runs across all formats, ranking behind only Meg Lanning and Ellyse Perry among Australian women. Her career highlights include seven World Cup titles, a Commonwealth Games gold medal, and an unforgettable 170 in the 2022 ODI World Cup final, the highest individual score in any World Cup final.

Vice-captain Tahlia McGrath, along with Ashleigh Gardner and Phoebe Litchfield, are frontrunners to succeed her as Australia’s next captain. Healy’s departure allows the team to focus on preparations for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, beginning in June, while celebrating the legacy of a true Australian cricket legend.
