Two Australian cricketers were reportedly “approached and touched inappropriately” while in India for the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025, Cricket Australia confirmed. The incident took place on Thursday, the morning after Australia defeated England, as the players were walking to a café in Indore.
Incident Reported and Police Involved
Cricket Australia said in a statement: “We can confirm two members of the Australian Women’s Team were approached and touched inappropriately by a motorcyclist while walking to a cafe in Indore. The matter was reported by team security to police who are handling the matter.” According to a report by the Press Trust of India, a man was arrested on Friday after allegedly following the players from their hotel. BBC Sport has reached out to Indore Police for further comment.
Australia Focuses on Final Group Match
Despite the unsettling incident, the Australian team remains focused on the tournament. The players are set to face South Africa in their final group-stage match on Saturday in Indore. Cricket Australia has not provided further details about the welfare measures in place for the team but confirmed that security protocols are being reviewed to ensure player safety.
