Gibbs Shines as Detroit Lions Crush Buccaneers 24–9

The Detroit Lions powered past the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 24–9 on Sunday night, driven by a career-defining display from Jahmyr Gibbs.

The 2023 first-round draft pick ran for 136 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries, adding 82 receiving yards on three catches to cap a complete offensive masterclass.

The win lifts Detroit to 5–2, maintaining their unbeaten home record this season, while Tampa Bay’s road streak came to a halt at three games.

Head coach Dan Campbell was full of praise for his young star.

“You felt like this was coming,” Campbell said. “He’s been getting stronger, getting his feel for the game — tonight, he just exploded. There’ll be no looking back now.”

Buccaneers’ Night Turns from Bad to Worse

Tampa Bay’s struggles deepened after wide receiver Mike Evans suffered a serious injury midway through the second quarter.

Evans landed awkwardly on his shoulder and head while attempting a catch, appearing to lose consciousness before being helped off the field. Head coach Todd Bowles later confirmed the veteran sustained a broken collarbone and is expected to be out “mostly toward the end of the year.”

Evans had only just returned after missing three games with a hamstring issue, making the setback even more painful for the Buccaneers’ offense.

Seattle Seahawks Stay Strong at Home

Elsewhere, Zach Charbonnet led the Seattle Seahawks to a 27–19 win over the Houston Texans, rushing for two touchdowns in a balanced team performance.

Rookie receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba continued his impressive run, recording his third consecutive 100-yard game with eight receptions for 123 yards and a touchdown.

Seattle improved to 2–2 at home, while the Texans dropped to 1–3 on the road, continuing their inconsistency away from Houston.

Lions on the Rise

With Gibbs’ breakout and Campbell’s side looking sharper every week, Detroit’s early-season momentum is building fast. The Lions are showing signs of a team ready not just to compete — but to contend.
