Brazil successfully hosted the International Judo Federation (IJF) Academy Instructor Course for the third time, reaffirming the country’s growing role in global judo education and coaching development.
The week-long practical training programme was organised by the Brazilian Judo Confederation in Pindamonhangaba, São Paulo, and brought together 44 coaches and referees from eight different countries.
The course was part of the IJF Academy’s Level 1 Instructor certification programme, designed to enhance the professional standards of coaches and referees worldwide. Participants underwent practical sessions, technical evaluations and specialised workshops led by experienced IJF educators.
According to the organisers, the initiative plays a crucial role in preparing professionals for international judo competitions and improving coaching standards globally. The programme also serves as a mandatory qualification pathway for officials aiming to work in IJF World Tour events, including Grand Slams and World Championships.
The practical sessions covered several aspects of judo, including standing techniques, groundwork, kata training and refereeing education. The event also marked the integration of referees into the instructor programme for the first time in Brazil.
Brazil had previously hosted the IJF Academy course in 2019 and 2023, with the latest edition highlighting the country’s continued commitment to judo development and education across South America.
