Ross Stewart has returned to the Scotland national football team squad after four years as head coach Steve Clarke named his players for the 2026 World Cup.
The 29-year-old striker last featured for Scotland in 2022 and had not been selected since that summer. Stewart impressed for Southampton this season, scoring 11 goals in 33 appearances, including a strike in the Championship play-off semi-final victory over Middlesbrough.
Teenage winger Findlay Curtis was also included after making his international debut against Japan in March and finishing the campaign with five goals during his loan spell at Kilmarnock.
Lennon Miller misses out despite strong season
Despite making 25 appearances for Udinese this season, midfielder Lennon Miller was left out of the final squad.
Miller earned four Scotland caps last year but did not feature in the March defeats against Ivory Coast and Japan.
Meanwhile, injury ruled out Tommy Conway after the Middlesbrough winger picked up a problem during the Championship play-off semi-final.
Veteran Gordon included among goalkeepers
At 43 years old, Craig Gordon remains part of the Scotland setup and was selected alongside Angus Gunn and Liam Kelly as the squad’s three goalkeepers.
The trio have made only 15 club appearances combined this season, with Gunn largely limited to Scotland matches and one substitute appearance for Nottingham Forest.
Scotland prepare for difficult World Cup group
Scotland national football team will face Haiti national football team, Morocco national football team and Brazil national football team in Group C of the World Cup.
The opening two matches will be played in Massachusetts before the final group fixture takes place in Miami.
Scotland also have warm-up matches scheduled against Curacao national football team at Hampden and Bolivia national football team in New Jersey before the tournament begins.
Experienced core remains intact
Captain Andy Robertson leads a squad containing several experienced internationals including Jack Hendry, Scott McKenna, Kieran Tierney, Billy Gilmour, Ryan Christie, Scott McTominay and John McGinn, who remains the squad’s leading scorer with 20 international goals.
Former Scotland midfielder Andy Halliday admitted disappointment over Miller’s omission but said Stewart “deserves” his recall after his performances this season.
