Veteran superstar Cristiano Ronaldo is set to script another chapter in football history after being named in Portugal’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. At 41, the legendary forward will become the first player ever to feature in six FIFA World Cups.
Portugal head coach Roberto Martínez announced a 27-man squad packed with experience and young talent as the European giants prepare for the tournament in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
The squad includes several big names such as Bruno Fernandes, Bernardo Silva, João Félix, Rafael Leão and Rúben Dias, with Portugal aiming to lift their maiden World Cup title.
Martinez said Ronaldo continues to earn his place on merit and remains an important figure for the squad because of his form, leadership and tactical discipline.
Portugal have been drawn in Group K alongside Colombia, DR Congo and Uzbekistan. The side will also play warm-up fixtures against Chile and Nigeria before beginning their World Cup campaign.
Interestingly, Portugal named 27 players instead of the standard 26, with an additional spot symbolically linked to the memory of late forward Diogo Jota, according to reports.
