India pacer Harshit Rana is unlikely to recover in time for the three-match T20I series against Afghanistan beginning on September 13 in New Delhi, with his hamstring injury still requiring more time to heal.

Rana, who last represented India during the England tour, was included in the India squad for the Afghanistan T20Is subject to fitness. He was also named in India’s squad for the Asian Games.

A BCCI source indicated that the pacer has not yet fully recovered from his hamstring injury and is unlikely to be available for the opening T20I.

“Harshit Rana has not yet fully recovered from his hamstring injury. He will need more time,” the BCCI source said.

Harshit Rana Fitness Remains Concern

Harshit Rana has been dealing with a hamstring injury, similar to all-rounder Washington Sundar, who has been declared fit for the Afghanistan T20I series.

Rana’s potential absence could leave India with fewer pace options as the team prepares for the Afghanistan T20Is. The pacer has been part of India’s plans in recent assignments and was also selected for the Asian Games.

India will begin the Afghanistan series in New Delhi on September 13, with the remaining two matches scheduled as part of the three-game T20I contest.

Jasprit Bumrah, Nitish Reddy On Track

India’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah and all-rounder Nitish Reddy were also included in the squad subject to fitness.

Bumrah has been sidelined since India’s ODI tour of England in July with a left knee injury, while Nitish Reddy is recovering from a quadriceps injury.

“Both Bumrah and Reddy are on track for their comeback,” the source added.

Their fitness will be closely monitored ahead of the Afghanistan T20Is, with India also preparing for a busy schedule involving the Japan T20I and Asian Games.

India Face Japan Before Asian Games

After the Afghanistan T20I series, India will play a one-off T20I against Japan in Tokyo on September 22.

The match will provide India with additional preparation before their Asian Games campaign begins. India are scheduled to open their Asian Games campaign on September 28.

For Harshit Rana, however, the immediate priority remains recovering fully from his hamstring injury before returning to international action.
