Hamburg, Germany : Indian golfer Avani Prashanth faced a tough third day at the 2026 Amundi German Masters, falling down the leaderboard after an arduous third round at the Ladies European Tour stop in Hamburg. The 19-year-old’s strong comeback earlier in the week was halted by adverse conditions and uncharacteristic scoring, underscoring the fine margins in elite women’s golf.
Prashanth, who had steadily recovered from an opening-round 78 with an impressive second-round 4-under-par 69 to comfortably make the cut, struggled to build momentum in round three. The Bengaluru-based player carded an eight-over 81, leaving her at nine-over par after 54 holes and well outside contention as the tournament approached its final day.
Her third round was marked by four bogeys and two double bogeys, with Prashanth unable to convert scoring opportunities into birdies on a day when the course played exceptionally tough. Strong winds and a brief hailstorm disrupted play on the Green Eagle Golf Courses’ North Course, challenging even the more experienced contenders.
Earlier in the event, Pranavi Urs failed to progress beyond the cut line, posting a combined score that left her over par and out of the weekend competition. Fellow Indian professional Vani Kapoor withdrew after her opening round, leaving Prashanth as the sole Indian representative in the weekend rounds.
At the top of the leaderboard, Germany’s Alexandra Forsterling capitalised on the shifting conditions with a composed third round of four-under-par 69, moving to 10-under-par overall and taking a two-shot advantage into the final round. Forsterling’s surge included a sequence of four consecutive birdies in the back nine, asserting her challenge for the title.
Close behind were Germany’s Chiara Noja and Czech Republic’s Sara Kouskova, both tied at eight-under, maintaining pressure as the tournament heads into its decisive day.
For Prashanth, the third round setback serves as a reminder of the variable nature of professional golf, particularly on overseas terrain. The young Indian has several opportunities ahead in the LET schedule to build on her resilience and recent form, but the Hamburg test highlighted the experience gap that still challenges emerging talents on the international stage.
