Aaron Rai produced the defining performance of his career by winning the 2026 PGA Championship, clinching his maiden major title with a sensational final-round display at Aronimink Golf Club in Pennsylvania.
The 31-year-old English golfer of Indian origin finished the tournament at nine-under-par after firing a brilliant final-round 65 to secure a memorable victory. Rai’s composed performance under pressure helped him overcome a packed leaderboard featuring some of the biggest names in world golf.
Rai scripted history by becoming the first English golfer in 107 years to win the PGA Championship, ending a drought dating back to Jim Barnes’ triumph in 1919. His victory also marked a landmark moment for golfers of Indian heritage on the global stage.
The turning point of the final round came on the 17th hole when Rai drained a remarkable long-range birdie putt that effectively sealed the championship. Earlier, he had also produced a crucial eagle on the ninth hole to build momentum during a tense contest.
Known for his calm personality and distinctive habit of wearing two gloves, Rai has steadily risen through the professional ranks over the years. Born in Wolverhampton to a family with Indian and Kenyan roots, he has often spoken about the sacrifices made by his parents during his early golfing journey.
The triumph is expected to significantly boost Rai’s standing in international golf and establish him among the sport’s elite players ahead of the remaining major tournaments of the season.
