Nigeria and Côte d’Ivoire showcased their sprinting depth by sweeping the men’s and women’s 4x100m relay titles respectively at the African Athletics Championships 2026 in Accra, delivering commanding performances in the finals.
In the women’s 4x100m relay, Nigeria successfully defended their crown with a sharp and coordinated effort from their quartet, continuing their dominance in the event on the continental stage.
Côte d’Ivoire, meanwhile, produced a standout performance in the men’s 4x100m relay, breaking the home challenge and clocking a national record to secure gold ahead of Nigeria, who settled for silver.
Elsewhere on the track, Kenya’s Diana Wanza delivered a powerful display in the women’s 10,000m, pulling away in the final stages to clinch the gold medal in a time of 31:33.26.
Wanza held off a competitive field to secure victory, marking one of Kenya’s key distance-running successes at the championships and reinforcing the country’s strength in long-distance events.
The results added to a packed medal haul across the competition, with sprint powerhouses continuing to dominate the short-distance events while East African athletes maintained their stronghold in endurance races.
