Nigeria’s sprint star Rosemary Chukwuma and Ghana’s experienced sprinter Joseph Paul Amoah comfortably advanced into the women’s and men’s 200m finals respectively at the African Athletics Championships 2026 in Accra.
Chukwuma, who has been in strong form throughout the competition, continued her smooth progression in the women’s sprint events as she set up a medal shot in the final after a controlled qualifying performance.
In the men’s category, Joseph Paul Amoah also delivered a confident run to secure his spot in the 200m final, keeping Ghana’s hopes alive in front of home supporters at the University of Ghana Stadium.
The semifinal rounds saw intense competition across both sections, but the two sprinters stood out with their experience and race execution, cruising through without major pressure as they conserved energy for the final showdown.
The women’s 200m final will now feature Chukwuma among the top contenders for gold, while Amoah will aim to convert his strong form into a podium finish in the men’s race.
