Indian badminton stars Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty have credited their struggles with injuries and the confidence gained from India’s historic Thomas Cup triumph in 2022 for their impressive run at the Thailand Open.
The Indian men’s doubles pair booked a place in the final after producing a dominant display in the semifinals of the BWF Super 500 tournament in Bangkok. Their latest performance marks another strong comeback phase after battling recurring fitness concerns over the past year.
Speaking after the victory, Satwik and Chirag admitted that injury setbacks had tested them mentally and physically, but the experience also helped them mature as players and improve their understanding of pressure situations.
The duo said India’s memorable Thomas Cup title-winning campaign in 2022 played a major role in shaping their confidence at the international level. India had created history by winning the prestigious team event for the first time, with Satwik and Chirag playing a crucial role throughout the tournament.
According to the pair, the success of the Thomas Cup triumph changed their mindset and convinced them they could consistently compete against the world’s best combinations.
Satwik and Chirag have remained one of India’s biggest medal hopes in international badminton over the past few seasons. The pair became the first Indian men’s doubles team to achieve the world No. 1 ranking and have won several major titles on the BWF circuit.
However, injuries repeatedly disrupted their momentum, forcing them to miss tournaments and struggle with rhythm during key phases of the season. The Thailand Open campaign is now being seen as a strong indication that the pair are rediscovering top form ahead of major upcoming events.
The Indian combination has impressed throughout the tournament with aggressive attacking play, quick court coverage and strong coordination against higher-ranked opponents.
Their consistency in Bangkok has also boosted India’s hopes for future events including the BWF World Championships, Asian Games and the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.
With confidence returning and fitness improving, Satwik and Chirag will now look to cap off their Thailand Open campaign with another major international title.
