Round 11 of the Netball Super League turned into a showcase for elite defensive play, with several international stars producing match-winning performances across the weekend.
Australia’s Charli Fidler, England’s Tash Pavelin, Wales international Leah Middleton, and South Africa’s Nicola Smith were among the standout performers as teams battled for crucial points in the race toward the playoffs.
The latest round highlighted just how influential international talent has become in the revamped professional Netball Super League structure this season.
Lightning Stage Stunning Comeback Against Panthers
Loughborough Lightning produced a dominant second-half comeback to defeat Birmingham Panthers 76-60 after trailing at halftime.
Panthers surprisingly held a 33-31 advantage at the break, largely thanks to Australian defender Charli Fidler, who delivered arguably her best performance of the season with six gains and five rebounds.
However, reigning champions Lightning completely shifted momentum after halftime, with England shooter Ella Clarke scoring 14 goals and three Super Shots to lead the turnaround.
The result further strengthened Lightning’s reputation as one of the league’s strongest second-half teams.
Nottingham Forest Edge Closer to Playoffs
Nottingham Forest Netball boosted their playoff hopes with a crucial 57-49 victory over London Mavericks.
England Roses defender Tash Pavelin played a major role in the victory alongside teammate Jayda Pechová as the duo disrupted Mavericks’ attacking rhythm throughout the match.
Pavelin finished with multiple gains and deflections, while Pechová’s aggressive defensive pressure proved decisive during key moments.
The win moved Forest within touching distance of officially securing a place in the postseason.
Dragons Continue Winning Momentum
LexisNexis Dragons secured back-to-back victories after defeating NIC Leeds Rhinos 68-62.
Welsh international Leah Middleton starred defensively with six gains and earned Player of the Match honours for her commanding display.
Meanwhile, fellow Welsh player Georgia Rowe delivered another impressive scoring performance, netting 45 goals overall — including 12 in the final quarter — to help Dragons pull away late in the contest.
Rowe’s consistent scoring form has now placed her among the league’s leading goal scorers this season.
Manchester Thunder Overpower London Pulse
Manchester Thunder climbed into second place on the league table after a commanding 64-52 victory over London Pulse.
Thunder established a huge first-half lead before holding off a second-half Pulse comeback attempt.
South African international Nicola Smith delivered one of the defensive performances of the round, finishing with nine gains and seven interceptions while earning Player of the Match recognition.
Her relentless defensive pressure disrupted Pulse’s attacking combinations and played a major role in Thunder’s statement win.
