Indian archers delivered a mixed bag of results at the ongoing Archery World Cup, with standout individual efforts from Simranjeet Kaur in the recurve category and Sahil Jadhav in the compound division helping the team stay alive in the medal contention. However, the overall campaign has been marked by inconsistency, with several key units falling short of expectations.
Simranjeet Kaur showed strong form in the women’s recurve event, advancing through early rounds and injecting fresh hope into India’s recurve campaign, which has otherwise struggled for consistency. On the compound side, Sahil Jadhav was part of the men’s team (alongside stars like Ojas Deotale and Kushal Dalal) that reached the semifinals and pushed hard for a podium finish, only to miss out narrowly in the bronze medal match.
While the compound teams entered with high expectations, they ultimately returned empty-handed from the team events after close defeats, highlighting issues with finishing under pressure. In recurve, the team showed flashes of quality through individuals like Simranjeet but lacked the depth and consistency needed for deeper runs.
This performance comes as Indian archery prepares for bigger challenges ahead, including the Asian Games. The bright spots from Simranjeet and Sahil provide encouragement, but the squad will need to address its inconsistency and tactical execution to convert these promising showings into medals.
The campaign underscores both the potential within the Indian team and the areas requiring sharper focus as they build toward major events later in the season.
