Jack Willis admits he could contribute more at Test level but has accepted he may not play for England national rugby union team again after committing his future to Stade Toulousain.
The 29-year-old back row last featured internationally during the 2023 Rugby World Cup.
France Move Ends England Chances
Willis initially remained eligible for England after joining Toulouse following Wasps’ collapse.
However, his decision to extend his contract in France means he falls outside the Rugby Football Union rule that excludes overseas-based players from selection.
No Regrets Over Career Choice
Despite missing out on international rugby, Willis has no regrets about staying in France.
He has become a key figure in Toulouse’s dominance, helping the club win multiple domestic titles and earning individual recognition.
Player Believes He Has Improved
Reflecting on his England career, Willis said he did not show his best at Test level.
He believes his development in France has made him a better player, capable of offering more if given another opportunity.
Possible Return Or Switch Remains Unlikely
There has been speculation about a short-term return to England ahead of the 2027 World Cup.
Another option could be representing Ireland national rugby union team through family eligibility, though that would require a move back into their domestic system.
Acceptance Of Current Reality
For now, Willis is focused on his club career and has made peace with his situation.
While the door to international rugby may not be fully closed, his priority remains continuing success with Toulouse.
