Lawrence Okolie has failed a doping test ahead of his heavyweight clash with Tony Yoka, casting serious doubt over the fight scheduled in Paris.
Adverse finding confirmed
Promoters Queensberry Promotions confirmed they were informed by the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association (VADA) that Okolie returned an adverse analytical finding following a test conducted before the bout.
A final decision on whether the fight will proceed is yet to be made, with organisers expected to provide an update soon.
Okolie responds to situation
Okolie, a former world champion, addressed the issue on social media, linking the result to treatment he received for an injury.
The 33-year-old revealed he had been dealing with an elbow problem during training, following a previous bicep injury, and expressed confidence that the situation would be clarified.
He also confirmed he will fully cooperate with authorities during the investigation.
Fight now in doubt
The bout against Yoka, the 2016 Olympic champion, was set to be a key moment in Okolie’s heavyweight journey.
Having previously held world titles at cruiserweight and bridgerweight, Okolie moved up to heavyweight in 2024 and remains unbeaten in the division.
Uncertain path ahead
With anti-doping procedures now underway, the focus shifts to the outcome of the investigation and whether the Paris fight can still take place.
The situation adds uncertainty to Okolie’s career momentum, with the result of the inquiry likely to determine his immediate future in the sport.
