New Delhi: Crispin Chettri has been reappointed as head coach of the India women’s national football team and has named a 22-member squad for the upcoming FIFA Series 2026 to be held in Kenya.
The decision was confirmed by the All India Football Federation after its technical committee recommended his return following the conclusion of Amelia Valverde’s short tenure.
Chettri, who earlier guided the Blue Tigresses during their qualification campaign for the 2026 Women’s Asian Cup, steps back into the role after India exited the continental tournament without progressing beyond the group stage.
The AIFF opted not to renew Valverde’s contract and turned to an Indian candidate, with the technical committee led by IM Vijayan backing Chettri’s appointment.
The squad and support staff have already reached Nairobi for the four-nation tournament, scheduled during the April FIFA International Women’s Match Window.
India will face hosts Kenya women’s national football team in the semi-final on April 11, while Australia women’s national football team take on Malawi women’s national football team in the other last-four clash. The winners will meet in the final on April 15, with the losing sides contesting the third-place playoff. All matches will be played at the Nyayo National Stadium.
