In a remarkable display of talent and composure, 15-year-old Fanny Utagushimaninde etched her name into the record books by becoming the youngest centurion in Women’s T20 International history. The teenage opener achieved the milestone during Nigeria Invitational Women’s T20I Tournament, guiding Rwanda to a dominant victory over Ghana.
Making her international debut at just 15 years and 223 days, Utagushimaninde produced a sensational unbeaten 111 off 65 balls. She reached her century in the 18th over, surpassing the previous record held by Prosscovia Alako, who had scored a T20I hundred at 16 years and 233 days in 2019.
Her knock was not only historic for her age but also for its impact. The innings became the highest score by a player on Women’s T20I debut, eclipsing the previous best of 96* set by Karen Rolton against England in 2005.
Riding on Utagushimaninde’s record-breaking performance, Rwanda posted an imposing 210/3 in their 20 overs. Ghana, in response, struggled to keep pace and were restricted to 88/8, handing Rwanda a comprehensive 122-run victory.
The extraordinary innings has marked the arrival of a new teenage star on the international stage, with Utagushimaninde’s fearless strokeplay and maturity drawing widespread praise. Her debut century not only sealed a convincing win but also signalled a bright future for Rwandan women’s cricket.
